RIM memilih mengecil supaya tidak hilang
Research In Motion (RIM) menyatakan akan melakukan restrukturisasi karena peminat Blackberry yang hilang drastis dalam 2 tahun belakangan ini.
Dalam restrukturisasinya, CEO RIM, Thorsten Heins, mengatakan Blackberry akan balik ke asal kekuatan Blackberry. Menurutnya selama 3 tahun belakangan ini focus dari blackberry adalah salah, maka itu perkembangannya terhambat.
Berikut ini adalah outline dari BB di masa depan.
- Tidak focus lagi ke end-user, melainkan akan focus ke corporate market. Alasannya BB tidak dapat bersaing dengan Symbian, Android, iOS, Bada, WP7 dalam soal harga. Karena RIM menyediakan fasilitas secure yang harganya mahal, sedangkan end-user seperti remaja dan ibu2 yang ngegosip tidak perlu secure-secure-an.
- Tidak akan focus menjual barang murah. Jadinya nanti HP BB semua nya adalah type high-end. Seperti iphone yang hanya menjual hp kelas atas saja. Ini untuk mencegah pebisnis membeli BB murah sehingga buat RIM rugi
- Apabila ternyata BB10 tidak laku, ada kemungkinan RIM menjadi perusahaan software yang tidak menjual handset sama sekali, tetapi hanya menjual software untuk Android dan iOS.
- Menjual perusahaannya. Google, Samsung, Nokia, Microsoft pernah menyatakan berminat membeli Intelectual Property (hak patent) dari RIM, tetapi waktu itu tidak di setujui oleh founder (pendiri) dari RIM, karena Google, Samsung, Nokia, Microsoft menyatakan tidak tertarik sama sekali terhadap BIS dan BBM, dan mereka akan menutupnya. Akan tetapi CEO RIM yang baru, Thorsten Heins mengisyaratkan RIM akan menerima opsi tutup total BIS dan BBM, dan hanya menjual Intelectual property saja.
Sekedar tambahan saja, RIM baru saja kehilangan 4 pentolan terpentingnya, yaitu Chief Technology Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, dan co-Founder(pendiri) RIM sebelom ajang BB10. Yang dapat berarti bahwa orang2 tersebut tidak yakin RIM akan sukses dengan BB10 nya. Sebuah pertanda sangat buruk bagi RIM.
